Media Quote of the Week:
"Cable [TV] has definitely upped the bar and there's pressure for networks to follow suit and not seem like staid old television...The networks and cable channels are constantly proving how far they can go without stepping over the line." -- Ben Grossman, editor of Broadcasting & Cable, the major news outlet of the television industry (Adweek, June 23, 2008)
Statistic of the Week:
88% of cable and satellite viewers say that there has been a significant increase in the number of shows with sexual, violent, crude or obscene content over the last five years. (AdAge.com, June 19, 2008)

sbenn- why do you seem to have so many problems logging in when no one else here has any problems. Are you logging in under too mant names? No, I have always had just one log in. I am proud of who I am and never thought of having 2 ID's. I don't see a reason anyone would want to do that. However, I did make a new one a few days ago when I had the problem with user name OK but never got an activation code to be able to use it. I can type both user either user name and password in when I try to log on but and it shows on the homepage like I am in but when I try to post it says I am a guest and I have to post that way and cannot check my e-mail. I will ask Brad to cancel "OK" out when this one gets to working. So who are you really and why are you posting as a guest? We are all freedomfighters. I think I feel a conspiracy. I have been very loyal to this board but can find another place it I am not wanted here. I liked the family atmosphere here and the joint troops fighting for what we believe in. I see that going down lately. We have to get it back or this board will be a lame duck as some of the politicians we know. What a crummy way to spend the 4th...being accused of deception! Sbenn

I log in with only my sbenn name and correct password on 3 different computers when I am out and about during the day some days. Could that cause a problem? Does anyone else do that?

As I have tried to explain, Brad G is gone... ProBoards is xperiencing some technical problems. Once corrected, I will help you lose the other ID... I don't think anyone is accusing you of deception! And if this board is going down, it is due to user apathy, and instability, in my opinion. We are all in the same boat, and as I said before we need to unify, and act like adults. I will be here or start another board if I have to. I will never give up my own personal goal of uniting Conservative, Constitutional, Liberty LOVING American PATRIOTS!!! God Bless us ALL!!! No, I am not the guest known as Freedomfighter. Let's all get it together, folks...

I appreciate your help. If you know how to send me a new authorization code that is what I need to get it straight I think. Thanks, Sbenn

Sbenn, I don't think FreedomFighter meant it as a criticism, and I want you to be able to feel comfortable here still. It's been rocky lately, but I'd hate to see us falling apart from bickering still further. We desperately need Fred as our next President, as "unrealistic" as it looks. fredheads.com/index.php?topic=280.0 - I constantly marvel at the vision of the creator, Steven Showers, who wrote in that blog about continuing the prayer battle up to the convention. CONSERVATIVES BICKER BECAUSE PRAYER IS NOT CENTRAL ENOUGH!

Media Quote of the Week:
"[Today's TV] shows, we're told by Hollywood, are 'reality programs' reflecting 'normal' families. They are, network executives would have us believe, more accurate depictions of the American family than fictional families of old: the Cleavers, the Bradys, the Huxtables, even the Simpsons. But when did any of our realities include buying a $9,000 grill like Denise Richards, or sitting down with our youngest daughter to watch a porn tape possibly starring our oldest child?" -- media columnist Katherine Berry (Pajamasmedia.com, June 2, 2008)
Statistic of the Week:
According to a 2007 Yankelovich poll, 74% of parents believe that TV does a poor job of reinforcing the values parents want to teach to their children. (AdAge.com, June 19, 2008)

Swingtown, by CBS (which also created Dexter), glorifies promiscuity to the highest degree, including three-somes (two women and a man, or two men and a woman?). The Tavistock Institute is hard at work. You can sign your complaint here by copying this URL to your web browser: www.parentstv.org/ptc/action/swingtown/main.asp

Media Quote of the Week:
"Every waking minute of the day, [children] are interacting with some sort of technological medium, except perhaps when they're in school. And even then, kids are texting from their pockets. They're wearing iPods all day…Nobody heard of MySpace five years ago. Nobody heard of an iPod five years ago. Nobody heard of instant messaging. This is a rapidly changing technological world, and the kids are the first ones to adapt technology." —Larry Rosen, professor of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills and the author of Me, MySpace and I: Parenting the Net Generation (usatoday.com March 26, 2008 via Focus on the Family’s Plugged In Online)
Statistic of the Week:
65% of children use cell phones at school, and 58% text in class. More than half text at the movies, and 28% text at the dinner table. -- Harris Interactive/Disney Mobile survey (Coyne Public Relations, July 2, 2007)
------------------
I look at people in public, and they are more interested in their electronics or the person on the cell phone than in the people right beside them. In fact, Americans are becoming AFRAID of each other because of the violence that "entertainment" pushes. A woman can't walk alone anymore because of widespread rape.

Dear Friend of the PTC:
By now you have probably heard or read news reports that the Third Circuit Court of Appeals threw out fines levied by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) against CBS and its affiliates for broadcasting Janet Jackson's breast exposure during the 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show. And I'm sure you find the ruling -- and the Court's justification for it -- as outrageous as I do. Shortly after the ruling was announced, CBS issued a statement saying it hoped the decision "will lead the FCC to return to the policy of restrained indecency enforcement it followed for decades."
By "restrained indecency enforcement," of course, CBS really means "no indecency enforcement" -- since that's the policy the FCC followed for decades.
For years, the FCC was a do-nothing agency when it came to enforcing standards of decency on the broadcast airwaves. And the American people had little recourse but to sit helplessly by as network executives used public property -- the broadcast airwaves -- to push ever more explicit and offensive sex, violence and profanity into their living rooms.
And that arrangement suited the networks perfectly.
In the aftermath of the Super Bowl incident, the FCC was finally forced into action by an outraged public and their representatives in Congress. And, I must hasten to add, by the PTC. You see, most people didn't even know they had the option of complaining to the FCC about indecent television content -- at least not until the PTC made a national issue of the FCC's failure to enforce existing broadcast decency laws.
Just days after the Janet Jackson fiasco, my predecessor and PTC founder, Brent Bozell testified before Congress about the FCC's poor record of indecency enforcement. In fact, that one incident set in motion a chain of events that eventually led to the passage of the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act, which was eventually signed into law and which finally gave the FCC real authority to impose meaningful fines on broadcasters who violate the law.
But none of this would have happened without the PTC there leading the way.
We've now suffered a major setback in our campaign to win back the public airwaves for our children and our children's children. And if you read some of the news articles about yesterday's decision, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about: Hollywood and its defenders are crowing about this victory in the courts, declaring it "an important advance for preserving creative freedom on the air."
Let's be clear about what's at stake here -- this isn't about preserving creative freedom -- it's about the networks seeking and being granted carte blanche to do what they will with a valuable public resource, our broadcast airwaves.
But this fight is far from over. The Third Circuit Court of Appeals does not have the final say, and we at the PTC are going to continue to fight for commonsense decency and to protect our children's innocence. But we can't do it alone.
Your financial support is needed now more than ever. Your most generous donation of $25, $50, $100 or more will ensure that the PTC has the resources to continue this battle until we achieve victory. No gift is too small, and every penny helps us to fight.
I know you care about this issue as much as I do. We're counting on your support.
With deepest gratitude, Tim Winter President Parents Television Council

I think it was a bad decision. I disagree with the statement, " And the American people had little recourse but to sit helplessly by as network executives used public property -- the broadcast airwaves -- to push ever more explicit and offensive sex, violence and profanity into their living rooms." If we really want to change what's on TV we need to quit sitting helplessly by. There is a powerful tool that EVERYONE has literally at their finger tips. The [glow=red,2,300]OFF BUTTON![/glow] If a majority of people would use this amazing little tool programming would get changed!
