Part of today's email from DownsizeDC.org:We're making progress against House Concurrent Resolution 362 and Senate Resolution 580, both of which urge President Bush to blockade Iran. Such a blockade would remove Iran's oil from the world market, send gasoline prices soaring, and potentially plunge the world into a deep recession. Thanks to your work, and pressure from other groups, some in Congress are beginning to see the light. It began when one of the key sponsors, Representative Robert Wexler, came out against his own resolution (although he hasn't yet removed his name from it). Now, three other Representative's have removed their names: Rep. Wm. Lacy Clay (D-MO), Rep. Tom Allen (D-ME), and Rep. Stephen Cohen (D-TN). If one of these is your representative please use our Iran campaign to send a thank you. This campaign tells Congress to deny the President the authority to attack Iran (something we need to keep asking for), but you can add your thank you as a personal comment. As for the rest of us, we need to keep asking our members of Congress to oppose House Concurrent Resolution 362 and Senate Resolution 580. You can do that in your personal comments on the Iran campaign. You can also mention that four Representatives have already changed their minds about this resolution, and now oppose it. --------------------- Go here to sign: www.downsizedc.org/etp/campaigns/54If you click the "send message" button, the screen may show "Internet Explorer cannot display this page". So is Dennis Kucinich's plan to impeach Bush off for good? I suppose it is. I'll post something at the Tin Foil Hat thread about this.* ----------- *Reply #563

cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=3906861&cl=8989983&ch=4226716&src=newsI noticed this with the video sbenn mentioned. These are some of my observations about Rick Warren, who is bringing McCain and Obama to his mega-church next month for an hour-long question-answer discussion. I am putting my reactions in parentheses and/or "emoticons": About McCain and Obama: "They're both good guys. They're both very different." He thinks the issues like border security are too short-sighted; let's look at "character"/"worldview". He doesn't endorse candidates as a pastor. He said he has to ask John McCain why some evangelical leaders are hesitant to endorse McCain. (Think he'll get a meaningful answer? ) He tries to differentiate faith and worldview. (Huh? How are they different? ) He says Obama and McCain are both strong Christians and friends with each other, but they both have different views of government. He seems to indicate that it's okay to have such vast differences as long as you are "Christian". (Rick Warren is a globalist, you know. He talks about the Constitution and how faith should influence government, but he believes in fighting AIDS and global warming with the help of the World Council of Churches and the United Nations.) ------------------ All I can say is, get out of your slumberland, Rick Warren!

Have a little looksy:D o w n s i z e r - D i s p a t c h ________________________________________ Quote of the Day: "We can have justice whenever those who have not been injured by injustice are as outraged by it as those who have been." -- Solon (594 B.C.) Subject: Another Victory! We just won another victory (our 13th victory since 2006). The Senate killed S. 3297 yesterday. This massive bill, called the "Advancing America's Priorities Act," contained 36 completely unrelated measures. Sixty votes were needed to close debate and bring the bill to a final vote. It received only 52 votes -- there were 40 votes against. This shows us something: There are many ways to defeat bad bills. Senators can place holds on bills. This is what Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma did on many of the bills that were included in this package. That's why the Senate leadership decided to bundle them together to try to pass them as a group. We could win more fights by convincing more Senators to place holds on bad bills. We could also win more often if we could cause more bills to fall short of the 60 votes needed in the Senate to permit a final vote. We could win by getting the vote we want in one chamber of Congress, even if we lose the vote in the other chamber. In many cases, we could win if we could just convince Democrats to vote like liberals on civil liberties, and Republicans to vote like conservatives on fiscal issues. There are many different ways to win as we grow larger and stronger. In this case, by helping to defeat S. 3297 we saved taxpayers $10 billion! We need to thank those Senators who voted against S. 3297, and spank those who voted for it. A complete roster of how the Senate voted is listed beneath my signature, in alphabetical order, by state. Check how your Senators voted, and then send them a message either thanking them or spanking them. You can send your message here. Remember, if you get a white page, please hit Refresh, or Back and try again. My Senators voted different ways, so here's what I sent: "I'm glad S. 3297 failed. We don't need to spend $10 billion on questionable new programs at a time when the federal deficit is so large, and taxpayers are having trouble making ends meet. Thank you to Senator Voinovich for voting against this monstrosity. And I want to encourage Senator Brown to stop voting for bloated spending bills, especially when they contain multiple unrelated proposals." Please send your "thank/spank" message now. Remember to hit your refresh button if you get a white screen. Please also consider making a contribution to our emergency fundraising drive. We started out needing more than $5,000, but now we're down to less than $1,500. There are just three days until the deadline, so we need your help now. You can contribute here. Don't forget to check how your Senators voted below my signature, and send your message. House Republicans are continuing their revolt. brvanlanen.wordpress.com/2008/08/04/the-revolt-continues/If you have a GOP representative participating, either in the People's House or by raising the issue back home they deserve your thanks. If you have a Dem representative demand answers as to why they won't pressure Pelosi to bring this legislation to a vote. And if they have a conservative opponent this fall encourage them to make this an issue.
