In light of the heated discussion seen at FredPAC as well as here I went back and looked at the First Principles mentioned by Fred that I posted on T2F back in January. The very same principles listed as OUR Principles on the Thompson Coalition site.
We are less than 6 weeks away from what could be the most important of elections. In recent months we've seen tremendous change in the views of some. Perhaps taking a step back to look at the big picture is in order. In the course of change has the true spirit of debate/discussion of the issues been lost? Has the understanding that the state races and House/Senate races are ultimately most important no matter who the POTUS choices are been lost?
There is a battle for the heart and soul out there that needs to be won. It won't be won by solely focusing on exposing things or knocking down VP candidates because they meet with people who at this point in the game they have to. The battle won't be won by making assumptions that all is bad. That battle will ultimately be won by FOCUSING our attention so that we are STANDING STRONG on OUR First Principles. The principles of -
INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FREE MARKETS LIMITED GOVERNMENT FEDERALISM PROTECTING OUR COUNTRY TRADITIONAL FAMILY VALUES THE RULE OF LAW CONSERVING OUR NATION'S RESOURCES
To win the battle we need to find and help build support for the candidates that support these principles. To win the battle we need to ensure that our fellow Americans see the examples from the past that show how following these principles work.
That's what we need to focus on not only over the next six weeks but also over the next four years.

I am glad all of us here share those first principles. For the most part, we have good discussion here more than lambasting, for which I am thankful. I've constantly searched for good House and Senate candidates to back, which is a rather elusive process. I hope that we can all contribute to the new radio show and that it will be able to focus on conservative battles all over the country.

Good thread Brad, and it would be nice if folks could start posting good candidates here, if nothing else, maybe others in their areas who log in as guests will see them. I would like to add one thing to your post, as in the next six weeks, the next four years, and the REST OF OUR LIVES. Truly, teach your children well. Try!2Focus...

There's a difference between sharing the principles and promoting them in discussion. As for the discussion is it truly good discussion if it's the same five or six people posting all the time? Do a blank search of the last couple hundred posts ... how many people are contributing to the discussion? The comment has been made before how some of us feel more comfortable here because there's not the lambasting seen on other "conservative" sites for not supporting McCain. But do we unwittingly do the same thing here to those who may support McCain? And is it truly good discussion if everything gets tied back to CFR? We all know it's out there and has it's dirty little hands in THE PEOPLE'S BUSINESS. And there is a time and place for exposing it through subtle little cues IMHO because a constant beating over the head will turn people off. Think of it from an education standpoint - does bombardment help you learn and understand? The Presidential race is a lost cause and again we all know Congress is more important. We also know that to get the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA back in the right direction we need to bring about change - a change back to the FIRST PRINCIPLES. To me that's not just done by finding candidates to support - the slates for this election have already been set and there's probably not good choices for many anyways - And it's also listed as the 4th objective of the Coalition. To me that change is accomplished by pointing out how something that takes place does or doesn't fit into the first principles. It's done by showing how conservative values have made this country great before. It's done by educating others through discussions or any other means possible about what the FIRST PRINCIPLES are and what they stand for. Stating that we share the FIRST PRINCIPLES doesn't cut it in a battle for the heart and soul of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. It needs to be proven by showing others how being a part of something like the Thompson Coalition can help bring about a return to those principles. It's proven by focusing on all of the objectives of the Coalition and working to bring together all the conservative groups that are out there.

If you accomplish a return of the USA to the First Principles first the rest of the ultimate battle will be much easier.
Ok off the soapbox now I gotta baseball game to watch.

The road to First Principles begins with God. The nation was born under God, and needs to return to Him before things will improve. It is the sick vs THE WELL, and the WELL have much work to do. But, we aren't afraid of a little hard work, right? In a nation where lies, spin and hype are the norm, we must get the TRUTH back out in the open...

What would you like to change at this forum, in particular, Brad?

I am not speaking for Brad, but I would like to see more people posting candidates, talking about things they have done, or want to do in their area, and generally helping encourage others. I had hoped the What I Did Today thread would grow with ideas, and I guess some did come through. But, more would be even better, since we are all different, and can do different things. I also wish more people told of candidate research and how they accomplished it. The obsession with the presidential race has become a bit much for some, and I also think the history of why this nation is in trouble is fine, but, more talk of how to turn things around is better for the soul, after a while!!! It would be incredible to begin seeing more positive discussion, although I know it is hard to do, right now...

Should we research other states' reps, too?

What would I like to see change?
I think it's found at the end of the soapbox post above lol.
Honestly I'd like to see a return of the discussion to more about the FIRST PRINCIPLES. More discussion of how to educate people on the benefits. More discussion of how to unite all the splintered conservative groups under the banner of those FIRST PRINCIPLES.
We all know the ultimate reason why this country is in trouble but constant bombardment is going to turn people off and we've seen otherwise good people leave this forum because of it. If they understand it and leave what impression is it making on those who come here that aren't as aware?
Another thing I'd like to see is a focus on more of the positives of this great nation. And along those line less pointing out of faults of candidates and bringing down of people new to the grand political scene just because of who they have to meet with at this point in the battle.
Personally I find it very concerning that more people aren't contributing to the discussion which to me suggests the right discussions may not be taking place. It should be concerning as well that the highest number of visitors in one day is way back in May. We all know the potential success of the FIRST PRINCIPLES and that conservatism wins out in the end. Like I said earlier the focus needs to be on getting a nationwide return to those principles because that is what will help win the great battle in the long run.
You have to hook 'em and reel 'em in and bombardment with CFR IMHO won't hook most people at this point.

Just my opinion, we should! We should do what other sites SAY they will do, but don't! This is why there are candidates at the Coalition site, and I wish more people would send in TRUE PRINCIPLED candidates, so we could help spread the word for them as well. You never know how many people may see them, there, or here... We could cull them from here to keep listing other places and at the new site, for Government Accountability. I see blending the Coaliton info into it, and working from there more and more... With Fred backing McCain as much as he has, and NO ACTION at Fredpac, many folks are surely hacked and not paying atention to the Fredpac. Except for a couple of sycophants, sorry, it's true, there sure aren't many folks over there from Fred08... I wish Fred would wash his hands of McCain PUBLICLY, and tell the TRUTH. But, he won't. I hate to be so blunt, but the time for backing the Republican Party, with McCain at the helm, is OVER.

To me a place to start is by returning to posting a PATRIOT of the month on Thompson Coalition. That is one way to make people aware that there are politicians and/or people out there who have seen success by living by the FIRST PRINCIPLES.
And as RinoHUNTER says it means a return to God and acknowledging HIM in all we do. It means STANDING STRONG in that battle.

The key in finding TRUE PRINCIPLED candidates at least in this election is understanding that some of these candidates are going to support someone like McCain - especially in tight Congressional races. And you can't allow such support to eliminate them because part of the success in this battle is going to lie in changing the system.
As for Fred and many conservative politicians I still question the true support of McCain. At least with Fred outside of right after the convention he's been conspiciously silent when it comes to campaigning.
The question is do we focus are attention on only the House/Senate or do we start looking at state leadership posts as well?
