My husband and I participated in the Adopt A Platoon Christmas drive. We sent 2 hugh boxes of stuff to "our platoon" who happened to be in Afghanistan. It truly is a worthy organization and you send your stuff right to a name you are emailed by Adopt A Platoon. It was very easy and mailing big boxes is cheap as it is going to our military. I was asked not to share the name and address for security purposes. You can participate here: www.adoptaplatoon.org/Our platoon sent us a thank you dated 12/24/07 with all their names signed. It is a valid organization. They really like Chocolate ;D

In response to McCain's promise that he would fully support a 100-year war in Iraq, Pat Buchanan gave some straight talk by saying that if the British were trying to subdue the independent spirit of America for 100 years, they'd never win because the people don't like the idea. I wonder why this analogy never made an impression on me before. I think I'll be straightforward myself for a moment: the Islamic revolution that's going on right now is a serious threat, largely a result of anger from our role in the Persian Gulf War (occupying Arabia against Arabs' wishes, and burying 12,000 Iraqi soldiers alive under George Bush's order). However, I don't know whether it'd be better to leave Iraq right now or stabilize it first. I'm no expert--but I just wanted to mention that analogy.

And it made the point and positive impact when they WERE straightforward! -------------------------- PTC Marriage Study Gets Huge Attention from News Media! On August 5th, the Parents Television Council released its latest Special Report, Happily Never After: How Hollywood Favors Adultery and Promiscuity Over Marital Intimacy on Prime Time Broadcast Television. This exhaustive study showed that today's prime-time broadcast television programming undermines marriage by constantly showing it in a negative light. The study also demonstrated that TV is obsessed with bizarre forms of sexual expression. Behaviors that were once seen as socially destructive are now portrayed as acceptable by the television industry. This study was released only 10 days ago; but in that time, literally hundreds of news media outlets -- newspapers, TV, radio and Internet websites --discussed the study. Print outlets discussing Happily Never After included The Washington Post, the New York Daily News, The Washington Times, and the news services AP and Reuters. Print publications covering the story on their website included Time, Forbes, The Miami Herald, Media Week, Advertising Age, and Broadcasting & Cable. Dozens of other websites also discussed the study, from Baptist Press and Catholic Online to "media insider" sites like Ars Technica and eFlux Media. And the greatest attention was given the study by TV itself: over 200 NBC affiliates discussed the study, and PTC representatives were guests on CNN Headline News' Showbiz Tonight, CBN News' Newswatch and the Canadian E! Entertainment affiliate CHCH-TV, among others. Most importantly, the overwhelming majority of the coverage was positive! Even media commentators who usually disagree with the PTC were forced to admit that the study's conclusions are true. Because of this vast media coverage, the entertainment industry is being forced to admit its own biased treatment of marriage and sexuality.► Happily Never After: How Hollywood Favors Adultery and Promiscuity Over Marital Intimacy on Prime Time Broadcast Television - PTC Special Report ► Watch TV Examples from the Study - PTC Clip Tape

The greatest thing I learned from Fred Thompson is how to be direct and not back down without being rude or disrespectful.
