In terms of taxes, McCain made several proposals. He said he would offer an alternative tax system that would consist of just two tax rates and a larger standard deduction than under the current code. Tax filers would be allowed to choose whether they wished to file under the current system or the new one.
"Americans do not resent paying their rightful share of taxes - what they do resent is being subjected to thousands of pages of needless and often irrational rules and demands from the IRS," McCain said.
McCain has not settled on the details of his tax plan such as what the rates would be, his senior adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin said in a call with reporters.
Holtz-Eakin said that whatever McCain proposes "would be economically beneficial and would restore compliance." The current complexity of the tax code is often blamed as one factor for the tax gap - the difference between what tax filers owe and what they actually pay.
But Len Burman, director of the Tax Policy Center, said if given the choice between two systems, people would opt for the one in which they owe the least, thereby reducing overall tax revenue.
An analysis of a plan with a similar structure, the Tax Policy Center found that tax revenue could be reduced by $7 trillion over 10 years if all taxpayers took advantage of it. Under that plan, proposed by former Republican candidate Fred Thompson, all taxpayers would owe less than under the current system, but filers making between $100,000 and $500,000 would see the biggest break.
McCain also proposed phasing out the Alternative Minimum Tax and boosting the dependent child exemption from $3,500 to $7,000 per child.
For corporations, he said he would seek to lower the top corporate tax rate from 35% to 25%. Source

And, I believe this is a reflection of why Fred even entered the race. If you can't be Reagan be Goldwater. Enter the race simply to influence the platforms of the other candidates.
Maybe Jaun will pick up the "Tall fences/Wide Gates" policy next.

We can only hope that Fred's philosophy will spread through the party little by little over the next few months. Remember everyone (almost) on stages at debates saying, "I agree with Fred!"?
I can just see the Democrats jumping on the part in Brad's post saying the ones the tax would benefit most are the ones whose income are between $100,000 and $500,000. I do not think they realize that with 2 income families are often in that price range and contribute greatly to the economy of our nation.
Another subject has anyone noticed the large lump in McCain's left jaw? It would be the right side in the pictures. Almost looks like a large chomp of tobacco tucked over there. Or like a tumor. It shows on TV really well and even shows in many pictures. I noticed it in the ad running at the top of this thread again that shows him and Obama and asks who will you vote for. My husband noticed it on TV one night and now I see it every time I look at his pictures.

This is a great step in the right direction for McCain, if he doesn't just talk the talk, but walks the walk. Now if only he would put forth his true and honest plan for illegal immigration, it would be great. He also needs to get far removed from the Gorebal Warming Hoax ;D
I just heard today that there was a major crackdown where they raided Pilgrims Pride Poultry Processing Plants in 10 states and rounded up the illegals. Hopefully Pilgrims Pride will be fined heavily for breaking the law ;D sbenn- The lump on McCains face has been there for a long time. I thought it actually moved from sticking out of the side of his face to under his jaw in recent pictures. I don't know if it is a result of his being tortured in Vietnam or if it is from his bouts with skin cancer.

"Americans do not resent paying their rightful share of taxes - what they do resent is being subjected to thousands of pages of needless and often irrational rules and demands from the IRS," We are willing to pay it on our terms and not gov't mandates(percentage on two tiers is still gov't decision). We pay when we decide. I think you know where I'm going with this one. Another subject has anyone noticed the large lump in McCain's left jaw? It would be the right side in the pictures. IF... and I DON'T, I wanted to go to mexico, I can fly over... PERIOD.As for taxes... well, here you go....."The wages of the average American worker, after inflation and taxes, have decreased 17% since 1973, the ONLY Western industrial nation to so suffer" ~Martin Gross, Author Source: " The Tax Racket:Government Extortion From A to Z" McCain cannot be trusted. Ragnar, I agree completely. Juan can not be trusted! I will hang myself out on a limb, this is the only issue I wasn't behind Fred 200%. I was pro FairTax(years ago) and it chapped my @$$ when Huckabee "preached" it and Fred didn't get the other grassroot movement on board.
I actually like the fly over Mexico idea very much, bombadier-bay doors open!

Commenting on Brad G's thread again. My point being, if you have jumped on the republican express, we need all help controlling the "presumptive nominee"'s tenure.

McDimocrap is going down in flames!!! Something will have to be done, he does not stand a chance, and it's obvious... This is good, and bad, if the RNC doesn't replace him, so... let's make the calls.

McDImocrap is going down in flames!!! Something will have to be done, he does not stand a chance, and it's obvious... This is good, and bad, if the RNC doesn't replace him, so... Make the calls. They don't care. They're under executive orders not to replace McCain. I keep going back to it, as it's glaringly obvious to me: you don't get invited over to Lord Rothschild's manor unless you're being prepped for a position of national leadership. Schwarzenegger was invited to the Rothschild castle before he ran for governor and tried to be a presidential candidate--and it was later revealed that his candidacy for President (which never got launched, thankfully) was determined at that meeting, years before. However, I do agree with you all that we need to take advantage of the poor media image McCain currently has and prod people to stage a massive uprising, all the way along. I may not have seen Fred's unenthusiastic eyes like traitorHUNTER (gonna have to get used to the new name), but I think that Fred thinks we'll survive four years with our basic freedoms intact under McCain. Many do. He probably figures that we could beat any global stuff he gives us, but anymore, a large part of the globalization happens without Congress's knowledge. Look at the 2005 meeting Bush had with the Presidents of Mexico and Canada--that was top secret. As soon as McCain signs the document to create a NAU--in secret, of course--Congress will be powerless without foreknowledge. But the signs have always been there that that is what McCain is heading toward . . . Anyway, I think the conservative media keeps people distracted with Obama as the inevitable next President who will garner the nation's support. As I've said, though, if the media, against its wishes, hadn't released Rev. Wright tapes, Obama would have a united party. The globalists want both parties divided. All of that is to say that we need to [glow=red,2,300]redirect the attention [/glow] of our conservative friends, who believe McCain is the only choice due to his support for the war on terror, and that everything will work out and he'll be replaced if they do nothing, simply because he doesn't have enough money. If Lord Rothschild wants him in, Lord Rothschild will pay off the Republican executives and pay for McCain's campaign to keep going. And the media is the easiest part to control. I have confidence we can beat McCain, but we will never do that by making calls and writing letters--those help, though. There's heavy-duty bribery that's keeping McCain in, and more than anything, people need to have a massive protest at the convention and DEMAND replacement--no Romney or Mike, either. Till I read that Ron Paul was staging a separate event in St. Paul during the convention, a recent change, I was willing to leave the duty to his supporters to rebel at St. Paul. His delegates will rebel, for sure--but with his freedom rally held at a separate building in St. Paul, it's up to us to create the needed dissent. It is conservative to use force to KEEP your values and freedoms, while it is radically liberal and fascist to use mobs as a way to destroy society. We want to KEEP society and rebuild it by STOPPING JOHN MCCAIN. I won't say it's all that matters, but I am not going to count on Congress to do its job before John McCain finalizes an end to the Constitution.
