I don't know how the mainstream media gets away with trashing her incessantly. Why aren't there more repercussions? [glow=red,2,300]BECAUSE SARAH PALIN IS A CONSERVATIVE! [/glow]

You hit the nail on the head sbenn.
As many here may or may not know for my Research Methods class I did a paper on Sarah Palin. The paper actually was on if she is the next Reagan of the Republican Party. I may or may not post it in it's entirety but there were some interesting similarities between the two that I came across - besides having qualities found in great leaders.
It's no secret that the media hated Reagan much like they hate Palin - because Americans could/can relate with them. And like Reagan she's shown the presence of tough skin which infuriates them even more.
Despite the despicable handling by McCain's team during the campaign she managed to show why she's a threat - based on her strong views and ability to actually communicate with people as opposed to talking down she could potentially unite the three pillars as Reagan did following the '76 fiasco. The media and liberals recognize this & it irritates them to no end - hence the reaching in the trash reporting.
Speaking of '76 and even '80 - much like Palin is getting criticized for inexperience within the GOP, Reagan faced similar criticism & some predicted if he got the nomination it would be the end of the GOP.
True conservatives will always get incessantly trashed. Case in point - if you do an honest analysis of the Republican primary who did the media report in a "bad" light the most because he would have been the biggest threat with momentum?

Sarah Palin's magic By GEORGE RASLEY | 11/13/08 3:36 PM EST
Wherever Palin went, people would begin to gather. They would appear as if by magic at the side doors and loading dock entrances of the presidential and vice presidential candidates’ hotels, asking, “Is Sarah staying here?” For security reasons, no one was supposed to confirm or deny that Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska was staying at a given location, but eventually someone always did, and the people would begin to gather.
These unscripted, spontaneous greeters offered a unique insight into Palin’s appeal as a vice presidential candidate and a sad commentary on an opportunity missed by the McCain-Palin campaign. There were rarely any of the hale-fellow-well-met businesspeople and ladies with rhinestone elephant pins that make up the crowd at most Republican events. Instead there were people in well-worn work clothes; the clean Carhart jackets and jeans or logo-embroidered shirts that guys wear when they come to give you an estimate for a new furnace or wait on you at the local computer shop. And they brought their children, especially their daughters and their children with disabilities, to see the candidate they called “Sarah.”
“I want my daughter to have a picture with Sarah,” said one fellow with collar-length salt-and-pepper hair under his faded POW-MIA ball cap. “I want her to see that a small-town girl can do anything she wants.” Why not take your daughter to the rally to hear Palin speak? “I don’t know anything about a rally; we’re not involved in politics in our family,” was the answer.
Family was a word that came up regularly when one spoke with Palin’s fans. “Did Sarah bring the whole family?” was a question often asked by people who had brought theirs; stair step groups of three or more children lined up in hopes of seeing Palin and her family as they rushed through the lobby on the way to their next campaign stop.
Once in New Hampshire, when told that, yes, the entire family was along, including Bristol and Trig, a small group from the local right-to-life organization burst into spontaneous applause. Startled advance people later concluded it was their way of affirming their support for the Palin family’s commitment to the right-to-life, despite the fact that the McCain campaign’s New Hampshire staff had prohibited any communication between Palin’s advance team and the local right-to-life leadership.
More often than not, to the consternation of the Secret Service and the annoyance of a staff charged with keeping her on schedule, Palin made a beeline to children, shaking hands, posing for pictures and signing autographs. If the signature appeal of the Obama campaign was to the young, hip urban single, then clearly the signature appeal of Palin was to voters with a family, especially a family including two or more children.
Yet Palin’s stump speech, so carefully crafted by the campaign, rarely included extensive references to children or family issues. And after a month and a half of campaign stops where families with disabled children turned up in droves, the campaign finally started to make accommodating people with special needs a priority at Palin events. A scant two weeks before the election, she was finally allowed to deliver a policy speech on disability issues, which she did with empathy and honesty.
Do a few loading dock conversations with onlookers and supporters trump a national campaign’s expensive polling and focus groups? Probably not. But it shouldn’t take a poll or a focus group to tell national Republican leaders that, now that the campaign is over, Palin's is the one authentic voice that can make those voters who “aren’t involved in politics” — but who care deeply about issues affecting small businesses, children and families — appear again, as if by magic.

As I've read about the unpredictable, unforeseen things Palin did and said that angered the McCain campaign, I've concluded that she was deemed too difficult to control and that the manipulators of politics got Obama elected for that reason.

Lots of Love for Palin in Georgia Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 5:59 PM Monday, December 01, 2008
More than 3,000 Atlanta metro residents turned out to see their GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss campaign with Republican rockstar Sarah Palin this afternoon at the Gwinnet Arena.
I had the chance to stop by and see the event since it was on the way home from a long Thanksgiving weekend in Auburn, Alabama with my fiance's family.
Chambliss may have had top billing at the campaign stop for his run-off election against Democrat Jim Martin, but there was no doubt the crowd was there for his stumping partner Palin. Even Sen. Chambliss seemed a little amazed at the size. He relished the attention, waving both arms in the air to greet everyone.
Hundreds of young girls came to the arena. Many carriied news magazines with Palin on the cover for her autograph after the event. "Sarah 2012!" was a common refrain and a popular sign. One girl even dressed in a pageant sash and tiara, a nod to the former beauty queen on stage. The young Palin fan held a huge poster that read "Gov. Palin, can I please have photo op?"
In her speech, Palin stuck to red meat themes: reform, energy independence, the war on terror, guns and life. And, she was gracious to her former running mate, John McCain, praising him repeatedly.
Palin reassured the crowd "commensense, pro-working class, conservative values" were still strong in America despite the McCain-Palin 2008 loss. "Losing an election does not mean losing our way," she said.
The Alaskan Governor did not attack Democratic President-elect Barack Obama as she often did on the campaign trail. She did emphasize at one point, however, it would be "ludicous" to raise taxes given the current economic environment that had been officially labeled a recession by economists earlier that afternoon.
The entire event lasted roughly 50 minutes, including the prayer and Pledge of Allegience. Palin was mobbed by the crowd after it closed.
As this reporter was walking out, a man drove up to me who had rushed home from work to catch the event. He asked if everything was over. I said yes it had ended, but Palin was signing autographs when I walked out. Before I could finish my sentence he gave me a brisk "Thank you!" and zoomed towards the arena.

OH MY! You Keep The Change; Palin 2012
I keep reading that Palin needs to ask Fred Thompson to be her mentor. Jeri Thompson is charter member of 'Team Sarah', and rumors are flying that Fred is lingering in the background. I don't know for sure, but it's a good rumor anyway. I believe that Palin being Palin, is what voter’s desire. Fred Thompson would be a great counselor for Governor Palin. He is very wise and would make a wily secretary of state for President Palin. I supported Fred in the primary and was very disappointed when he dropped out before Florida Primary. Fred, was hot until he decide to run then MSM couldn't give him air time, and gave more credence to rumors than facts which is similar to what happen to Sarah Palin but she had to bare up to the full-bore hatred of the media and the opposing party.
Saxby is going to win in Georgia and he will be beholden to Sarah. She needs to continue supporting conservatives Republicans and avoid RINOs in the future. She also needs to write the book about energy needs and solutions and political philosophy 'a la Goldwater' "The Conscience of a Conservative" by dismissing that conservatism is no more out of date than the golden rule. Putting into simple words her basic conservative principles; would not plagiarize what others have said but reinforce the wisdom of the ages as Fred would say.
She is already presidential but still had to watch her on cnn.com/live to hear complete speech. Fred and Sarah are not Reagans, and both tried to avoid that new Ronald Reagan moniker thought they were flattered. Both Reagan and Thompson were reluctant candidates; maybe Fred more so than Reagan. But the big difference is Sarah has worked her way up from City Council, to Mayor to running unsucessfully for Lieutenant Governor, then a successful election to become Governor of Alaska she wasn't drafted by a committee. Her run for vice-president has inspired millions of social and fiscal conservatives, waitresses, construction workers, hunters, and fishermen, young, old and families: her appeal is more universal than Obama’s. Obama is already losing his appeal, look for him to have a very bad four years. I look around and I see McCain-Palin yard signs being converted to say just Palin and people aren't taking them down for awhile. Not being the First Woman President is Palin's to lose. Pretty, soon she'll be blamed for all things conservative the 24/7 cable news won't let her go. Watch for new hotels to be build in Wallisa just to accomidate the ever watch eye of the liberal media. Wallisa is femimine form of Wallace...you know like William Wallace of "Braveheart" fame.
