I educated an old friend about the Tin Foil Hat things I've learned. And I grew in other ways today, too!

I have been trying to think of what else we can do to help our country. One of the things that we really need to pay attention to are what bills are coming up for votes in the Senate and the House. I check the Thomas website each day as they give calendars of what votes are coming up. We often depend on someone alerting us to what is coming, but, sometimes it's too late to work to stop the bad legislation. I know it takes a lot of time to research these items, but, we have been successful so far with the illegal amnesty mess and now the Global Warming money making scheme bill. I will try to be diligent in watching out for when these sneaks try to stick some dirty tricks into bills. What is amazing if you watch the daily agenda in the House as the day is going on, is how much time these morons spend on naming streets and buildings and bridges, honoring sports teams, creating a "brain cancer awareness day" and other such nonsense. And we are paying them very nice salaries with lots of perks. I say we need to fire them all and then give them bad referrences! Since you check there everyday, could you maybe make a new thread here that has daily concerns with bills in congress? That would be wonderful. What is that site. I don't have it. You are one of our best!!!!

For those interested here are some good websites on the never ending EARMARKS or as they say The Pay to Play Washington Game of the Lobbyists www.taxpayer.net/www.sunlightfoundation.com/Earmark map for 2007 www.sunlightlabs.com/earmarks/From my local newspaper today- Barack Obama earmarked $1.8 million in five earmarks for Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, which ran $8 million in the black last year and has embarked on a 4 year $100 million fundraising campaign. With that kind of money, why should taxpayers fund a $400,00 program earmarked to help the aquarium conduct program aimed at preventing juvenial deliquency? Did I just hear that his campaign said it will not accept lobbyists money or money from anyone wanting to influence him in Washington

I researched my own KS representative and senators better, looking especially at what they do NOT specify, more than for what they DO specify.

As an example, this comes from Congressman Dennis Moore's stance on immigration: ----- It is clear to me that Congress needs to replace our out-of-date and ineffective immigration laws with strong reforms that will improve our border security and make our immigration policies more realistic, enforceable, and complimentary to the global economy we live in. We must strictly enforce our current laws. We must crack down on employers who knowingly hire and take advantage of undocumented workers. ----- Somehow that sounds a bit vague to me! Securing the borders and enforcing existant laws are applaudable, but that part about making "our immigration policies more realistic, enforceable, and complimentary to the global economy" says the opposite to me! That's a moderate! I also noticed that his statement on the environment was environmentalistic but also watered-down environmentalism. There was not a militant statement about taxing people to stop global warming.
I'll have to do more research on my senators tomorrow. Until recently, I figured that the issue of representatives and senators would take care of itself, and that if they were liberal or conservative, you could do nothing to change it. But that was before I joined here!

"watered-down environmentalism"
Yep you bet...even while we have too much Carbon Dioxide - which flora needs to process into Oxygen - we'll soon be told that the earch has too much water!

Your man imbedded in deepest,. lefterest Hollywood, checking in....
Well, I'm concentrating on 3 congressional districts...though Henry Waxman and Diane Watson are pretty entrenched, I'm going to try to connect the coalition with their challengers - including Minuteman Tony Dolz who is running against Waxman but REALLY putting his efforts into fighting McCain.
But my long-time idol in California legislature, Tom McClintock, just landslid the primary for his new district in Northern California...it definitely helped to have Fred on hand last month to return the favor of Tom's chairing Fred's campaign in California.
Meanwhile, I've done my own outreach for a street fair in my own Griffith Park area, which is included in the Neighborhood Council district in which I'm now a candidate running for a 2 year term on the Board. Kind of advisory to City Councilmen, but a good local start. At the Tom/Fred event last month, I met one of the Californians for Fred Thompson area coordinators who serves on a similar board elsewhere in L.A., who is also running for another board while keeping busy with the local Republican Party
I gotta tell you though, it's an uphill battle. I was cordial at a lunch yesterday to Barbara Boxer's deputy at a scholarship event. FDR's grandson Ford heads an organization which grants scholarships to students from San Fernando High School, where my wife teaches and assures me that most of the 92% immigrant student population is legal. And I think it's gratifying, and important that these kids get a chance to further themselves...and assimilate as productive members of society. But the returning alumni speakers have gone on to University of California campuses, with ample 'Ethnic Studies' programs, and are filled with encouragement to seek revolution! Ostensibly, I hope that means to improve the bureaucracy of L.A. Unified School District, but I suspect it's more than that.
Oh well....Viva la resistencia!

Yesterday, I went shopping for Father's Day. (Happy Father's Day to all of our FredHead Dads!!!!! ) I went to Best Buy, and was TOTALLY DISGUSTED that they had gift cards ENTIRELY IN SPANISH!!!! I brought it up to the service desk and asked for the Supervisor. I asked the supervisor what the gift card said, and they replied that, "It was Spanish, for their many Spanish-speaking customers". I proceeded with my usual tirade, which required the supervisor getting the store manager!!!!!! Upon informing the manager that " THIS IS AMERICA" and " WE SPEAK ENGLISH IN AMERICA", I then asked them where the Arabic gift cards were, as I am sure there are many more Arabic speaking clientele in this area than Spanish-speaking. I further informed the manager that " UNLESS THEY START PROVIDING ARABIC GIFT CARDS, AND GIFT CARDS IN EVERY OTHER LANGUAGE, THAT I WAS GOING TO GET THE ACLU INVOLVED!!!!!! (Obviously, I can't stand the ACLU, but a little "Name throwing" never hurt anyone!!!!! ) Besides, I want gift cards in Yiddish!!!!!! Melissa M

Hey, that's pretty good, Melissa ;D - you ought to actually call the ACLU, though, just to find out whether they'd fight for the "right" to have it printed in Yiddish.

I found this on Senator Brownback's site:
"One of the primary jobs of a government is to ensure the safety of its citizens. In order to do so we must strategically secure our borders and discourage illegal immigration as well as drug and human trafficking."
I emboldened the word because it sounds like compromise to me. I'm going to write him next! ;D
